About Wilder

We built what we
wished existed.

Wilder started with a simple frustration: smart, creative, energetic kids were being failed by systems that couldn't see them. So we built something different.

Our Story

Why Wilder exists.

The kids who were "too much" — too energetic, too curious, too creative, too sensitive for the rows-and-bells model — were the ones who became the most interesting adults. We built Wilder for those kids.

We are not anti-academics. We are deeply pro-whole-child. We believe a learner who understands themselves, cares for others, moves well, creates with their hands, and asks good questions will out-perform any learner who was simply taught to the test.

Wilder opens in Las Vegas in September 2026. We keep our groups intentionally small and mixed-age. We are accepting Founding Families now.

What We Believe

Our core values.

Relationship over curriculum

Before we can teach a child anything, they need to trust us. Before they trust us, they need to know we see them — as a full person, not a student profile.

Small is a feature, not a limitation

Staying small is the point, not a phase we grow out of. Intimacy, accountability, and belonging only exist at human scale. We are small on purpose, forever.

The outdoors is a classroom

Movement, nature, and physical challenge develop the brain as much as books do. Our program moves outside every single day — rain, wind, and all.

Boredom is a signal, not a problem

When a child is bored, we don't fill the gap. We ask what they want to make, build, or explore. Intrinsic motivation is the goal. We cultivate it intentionally.

Lead Guide & Founder

Hi! I'm Shawn, though most people know me as "Girl Shawn." I'm married to my husband, Kevin, and together we're raising five amazing kids: four boys and one adventurous little girl.

Kevin and I started our construction company in Montana in 2008 and expanded to Las Vegas in 2020. While building businesses has been rewarding, raising our children has taught me the most about people, learning, and the importance of recognizing that every child is uniquely wired.

Our three older boys attended public school, where I often felt their curiosity, energy, and need to move were viewed as problems instead of strengths. When it came time for our younger two to start school, we chose a different path and found an incredible microschool community in Henderson. Watching our children thrive in an environment that celebrated who they were inspired the vision for Wilder.

I believe there isn't one "right" path to success. Some children will attend college, some will pursue trades, some will start businesses, and others will forge paths we can't even imagine yet. Our role isn't to decide that path for them. It's to help them discover their strengths, build confidence, develop character, and become capable, curious people who love learning.

Wilder was created to be a place where children are encouraged to think independently, stay active, explore their passions, and grow into exactly who they're meant to become.

I can't wait to meet your family and welcome you to ours.
