Roots · Week 3 — Taking a Position
Objectives
Wildlings are formally introduced to the thinking skill of holding two ideas at once and taking a defensible position. The question is 'Can I believe something and still understand why someone else believes differently?'
Materials
discussion prompt cards, position paper draft sheets
Activities
The coach presents a genuine, age-appropriate dilemma related to belonging or community with two honestly held positions. Wildlings discuss in small groups, then individually choose and justify a position. The coach names the disagreement aloud and protects every viewpoint without resolving the tension. A structured debate-lite format lets Wildlings practice defending with reasons, not volume. Wildlings begin drafting notes for their own position paper.
Coach notes
This is the formal launch of the critical-thinking thread — model 'I don't know, what do you think?' genuinely.
