Wild · Week 1 — Learning to See

NatureDraftWhole groupWeek 1

Objectives

Wildlings practice honest, careful observation of the natural world before jumping to explanation. The question is 'What do I actually notice, before I explain it?'

Materials

Field Journal, pencils, outdoor sit-spot location

Activities

A sit-spot exercise has Wildlings sit quietly outdoors and record only what their senses tell them. Coaches model the difference between observation and inference using a shared example. Wildlings begin their Field Journal with a first dated entry. A nature scavenger hunt builds noticing skills playfully. The week closes with sharing one surprising observation each.

Coach notes

Resist correcting a child's observation with 'the right answer' too quickly — let looking come first.
